Accessible Bathrooms

Accessible Bathrooms

Until recently most accessible bathrooms were designed for their functionality rather than their looks, leaving many people feeling that these spaces appeared clinical and ugly.

Thankfully this is set to change with the launch of a new range from Ideal Standard. Developed with accessibility in mind and designed by award-winning UK designer Robin Levien in conjunction with occupational therapists, Ideal Standard’s Concept Freedom range continues the brand’s promise to create ‘a beautiful use of space’ and we at Timbercraft certainly agree that this new collection delivers ceramics, brassware and showering options that are elegant, highly functional and that meet a variety of access needs.Ideal Standard Concept Freedom

These products not only allow our designers to create bathrooms that can cope with the demands of modern households including older generations and the less able but that also still look contemporary and stylish.

The range includes raised height WCs for easier, more comfortable access, accessible basins with wide side rims, wetroom panels, grab rails and shower seats.

Designer, Robin Levien, said:
“The recession played a key influence in shaping the bathroom market and led to the emergence of the multi-generational bathroom. A fragile economy has meant that children are living at home for longer, whilst the UK’s ageing population and an increase in care home fees has meant that the domestic bathroom has had to adapt to meet the needs of consumers with various mobility needs.
The Concept Freedom range is an evolution in inclusive bathroom design. The combination of sleek design and support demonstrates that accessible bathrooms really can be just as beautiful as conventional bathrooms.
